MOBILE Hygiene clinic
What It Is
The Mobile Hygiene Clinic (MHC) is comprised of a fleet of shower trailers that deliver essential services directly to Austin’s homeless population. Conceived as a response to the COVID-19 outbreak, MHC promotes social distancing and reduces travel in the homeless community by delivering services outdoors and to many locations throughout the city. As many regular resources have slowed down or ground to a halt due to COVID-19, MHC meets the growing needs of our friends experiencing homelessness by delivering a dignified way to access hygiene facilities and supplies. Our first shower trailer (affectionately named the “Box of Rain”) hit the streets in March 2020, and we now have four trailers around the city helping people stay healthy, happy, and safe!
The MHC also continues to apply TOOF’s proven Workforce First model: It is run by a team of people experiencing homelessness who are paid $15/hr to oversee and execute operations. Program participants are also offered case management that helps break down barriers to stable housing and income.
Our shower trailers run at the following times and locations:
Sunrise Church (Ben White and Menchaca) 8:30AM-11:00AM Monday – Friday
Downtown (7th and IH35) 9:30 AM-1:30 PM Monday – Friday
Burnet and Hwy 183 9:30 AM-2:30 PM Monday – Friday
Esperanza Community (780 Hwy 183 S) 7AM-7PM Monday – Sunday
