What was It
The Mobile Hygiene Clinic delivered humanitarian relief directly to Austin’s homeless population in the form of mobile showers and hygiene materials. The idea was conceived as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and flourished into a powerful outreach tool to potential clients for other TOOF programming. By meeting people where they were and offering basic needs, MHC provided a valuable entry point into TOOF’s array of programs for people who had not already engaged in homeless services.
The Mobile Hygiene Clinic applied TOOF’s proven Workforce First employment model: Each location was run by a team of people experiencing homelessness who were paid $20 an hour to oversee and execute operations.
